Social distancing is mandatory for us all, but we’re all reacting differently to coronavirus.
If two players have a ladder match the less cautious player must adopt the precautions of the more cautious player. This has to be mandatory for now.
Safety – BALL HANDLING
[MOST CAUTIOUS] Use your own clearly marked tennis balls – so only serve with your own set of balls, and make sure you don’t handle the balls belonging to your opponent. Avoid using your hands to pick up tennis balls that aren’t yours - use your racquet/foot to hit/kick them to your opponent or return them to another court.
[MIDDLE PATH] I’ve seen some players use one set of balls, and each player wears a glove on their non-racquet hand. The glove seems to be a reminder to both players not to handle the balls, and not to touch their face.
[LEAST CAUTIOUS] Neither players is worried. They use one set of balls and both feel free to handle the balls
Safety – COURT SELECTION
[MOST CAUTIOUS] Use only Astro courts, because they are individually fenced, which greatly reduces the possibility of a player from an adjacent court running onto the court.
[MIDDLE PATH] Use end courts (Courts 1, 4, 9, 11) and Astro courts. At most there is a possibility of a player from just one adjacent court running onto the court.
[LEAST CAUTIOUS] Use any court.
Safety – BALLOON
When the balloon is available some players will wish to use it, but others will wish to avoid it due to
concerns about playing inside during the coronavirus pandemic.
For ladder matches, a player can not insist on the use of the balloon, even if that player offers to pay the full cost of it.
